Midweek Reset – December 21

The Midweek Reset comes out (usually) on Wednesdays, and is full of fun links, recipes, books, and articles to refresh your week. You can find previous Midweek Resets using the search bar, or check out last week’s Reset here.

Happy Wednesday! It’s the time of year when my social media feeds are full of book lists from various media sources: Top books of 2022, best books as chosen by…, Canadians read the top fiction, etc. So I thought this week I would round up a pile of those lists for your reading pleasure. As someone said to me recently: “I don’t know where you find all these books that you save and then order from the library.” Well, here’s part of the answer: the end of the year book list collection!

Anansi Press is celebrating its 55th anniversary with 55 favourite books that they published. These aren’t all from this year, but still worth a look.

Canadian authors have chosen their top books of 2022 in The Walrus.

The Booker Prize has named its top books of 2022.

Time Magazine has chosen 100 must-read books of this year (this one had lots of new ones for me!)

NPR also has some new ones I haven’t seen on its long list of Books We Loved 2022

I always like to see what the UK readers pick for their top reads, and the Guardian has a thorough summary here (including some lovely children’s books)

For the cerebral among us, the New Yorker has published its 2022 book list here

49th Shelf always shares and promotes Canadian literature, and they’ve highlighted the 2022 award winners. And, they’ve got the top 22 books of 2022 up for giveaway on their website right now.

And to finish it all off: The Booker Prize has a book-themed crossword to keep us all going until the big Globe and Mail one comes out!
