An AirBnB guest recently wondered where in Nova Scotia they could eat a whole lobster – Hall’s Harbour!
Hall’s Harbour is a traditional and functioning fishing community on the Bay of Fundy. Just over an hour from Halifax, and about 30 minutes from Wolfville, it’s well worth the drive.
More than Just Lobster at Hall’s Harbour?
Hall’s Harbour’s restaurant is called the Lobster Pound. They are known for the fresh lobster plucked from the ocean. It is put in the tank and then served to you – bib and all. If lobster isn’t your thing, they offer a full menu of other seafood options. There are also non-seafood options like salads and chowder.
Hall’s Harbour is also a functional fishing village, and a great place to see the world’s highest tides in action. As you park, you can see the boats either sitting on the ocean floor, or bobbing in the water. Check out the tide times for nearby Baxter’s Harbour here. When the tide is out, the boats stay in harbour. When the tide comes in they can get back out to sea. There is a great rocky beach on both sides of the Lobster Pound to enjoy. It’s a great spot for kids and rock-hunters. If you’re not there for a meal, you can still grab an ice cream at the gift shop!
How Far to Hall’s Harbour?
If you’re in downtown Halifax, it’s about 1 hour and 20 minutes to Hall’s Harbour. You can drive there and back in an evening or make a day trip of it. Sunset at Hall’s Harbour is very pretty
If you’re already in the Annapolis Valley, the drive is much shorter and it’s a great evening trip. In the car, it’s about 45 minutes from Windsor, 30 minutes from Wolfville, and 20 minutes from Kentville. Unfortunately there is no public transit to help with this journey.
Is it worth the trip?
In my opinion, yes. And my AirBnB guests who have recently visited agree. Although you can eat lobster in lots of places in Nova Scotia, it’s different in a working fishing village. You can enjoy the beach, the tides, and the food in the same outing. There is so much to see in the area as well. Combine a trip to Hall’s Harbour with a visit to Blomidon Provincial Park or another great day trip from Halifax.
